Bow and Rifle Hunting in BC Canada for Moose, Black Bear, Grizzly & Wolf

The Territory & the Hunt: Our guiding territory, in the Fort St. James area, is over 1000 sq km of prime habitat for trophy Black Bears, Canada Moose, Deer, Wolf & Grizzly.

Every season our hunters kill Black Bears over 7' (nose to tail). The biggest so far is 7'5". Also, our Grizzly population has increased greatly in recent years. We have some of the densest Moose populations in BC with mature Bulls ranging from 35" to over 50".

Fair-chase Spot & Stalk Hunts: We access our territory by 4x4 and boat. Glassing and stalking is our usual method for hunting Bear. To hunt Moose we stay close to lakes and swamps, using various calling techniques, often setting up in treestands and blinds.

We can adapt the hunting plan for "hard" or soft" hunts. We tailor our hunts to each hunter's abilities. We will do everything feasible to make your hunt enjoyable and successful regardless of your physical condition.

Black Bear & Grizzly Bear: Whether hunting Black Bear in the Spring or in the Fall it's average to see about 5 Bears a day. In the Spring, we spot and stalk old logging cuts and bush trails where new dandelion and clover grow. In the early Fall, the Bears are drawn to the variety of berries that ripen on open hillsides.

Average Rifle shot distance: 100 yards, 20 yards for Bow. We have some very successful techniques for stalking up close. For several years now, our success rate for Black Bear has been over 100%. While on the Bear hunt, there's always the chance to come across Wolves. So getting a Wolf tag is a good idea. You can pre-book a second Bear or add a second Bear once you're here.

Grizzly numbers have been steadily increasing in recent years. They are most numerous n our territory in early Spring and late Fall, but we see and track them all season. Check out our Grizzly/Moose Fall Combo Hunt.

Canada Moose: We specialize in calling Bulls. We have a range of techniques and tricks to bring them in. And we encourage every hunter to learn to call. We'll teach you how. Cow calls, Bull calls, breaking and scraping, other moosey sounds, even Calf calls are used.

A Bull might come out and give us a chance after 20 minutes and a couple of Cow calls. Or we might have to work a Bull for hours. Often when a Bull responds, gets close but doesn't come out, he's expecting the Cow come to him. That's when calling and stalking properly can allow a Hunter to stalk in for a kill. This technique can be especially successful for Bow Hunters.

Most Bulls harvested are between 30 and 48 inches. Our biggest Bulls grow antlers with spreads over 50 inches. Expect to see Moose, hear them or see fresh signs of them, every day.

We have some of the densest Moose populations in BC. Canada. Black Bear are active into the beginning of October. You can add Bear to your Moose Hunt to create a Combo Hunt.

Success for Non-Trophy Meat Hunts in recent years has been 100%. Depending on when you can hunt, Cow or Immature Bull are included in Non-Trophy Meat Hunts.

Omineca Lodge: Our base camp is Omineca Lodge on a 5 mile long lake. Rustic comfort and a lake full of wild native Rainbow Trout makes the Lodge a great place to bring along family members or other non-hunting companions. Each private guest cabins has electric lights, shower and airtight wood stove. We gather at the Main Lodge for rustic, gourmet meals that will have you asking for the recipe. We have an electric generator in camp, so charging batteries for your electronics is no problem. We also have Radio Telephone and a Sat Phone at the Lodge but your office doesn't have to know that.

"My father Bert and I, have been guiding in the same territory for 27 years. When you book a hunt with us, our whole Omineca Crew will do everything possible to give you the opportunity to get your game. We will do our darndest, so that you have a successful hunt and a good time." Frank Badey
